Villas Jacquelina is a beautiful boutique Hotel in Quepos Costa Rica. Their treehouse-style accommodation mixes a variety of room options that can accommodate a variety of budgets and needs. With incredible rooftop terraces, a super chill pool area, and one of the coolest elevated hammock nets in Costa Rica, this boutique Hotel is extremely special and a place where you can feel the love the owners put in.
Villas Jacquelina Boutique Hotel in Quepos originated in 2011 and was founded by Steven Acedo (dad) and Esteban Acedo(son). The majority of the Hotel itself was built by Steven Acedo who worked as the general contractor on the property and oversaw every aspect of the building process. Before construction was even complete, Steven Acedo had already started renting rooms. Steven's daughter (Jacquelyne) was also living in Costa Rica during part of the construction period and was a key influence and inspiration to the property at that time. Jacquelyn's influence on the property led to the Hotel being named in her honor.
After finishing construction on the property in 2011, the building (still in a very raw form) was rented to a language school by the name of TEFL. This school trained English teachers who were interested in teaching English as a second language in countries like Costa Rica. During the school rental period, they used the bedrooms to house students and they used rooftops and common areas as classrooms. The students loved Villas Jacquelina but after only a couple of years, the school moved and the Acedo family was forced to decide what to do with the property.
Steven and Esteban Acedo who were living on-site and continuing construction at the time were faced with a new dilemma. Would they look for a new renter who could rent the entire building? Would they separate the building into condominiums and rent them monthly and individually? Or, would they reinvest further into their property to turn it into a boutique hotel? Needless to say, Steven and Esteban choose to reinvest in their property with the goal of becoming a fulling recognized budget-friendly boutique Hotel in Quepos. This decision to create a Hotel lead to the addition of a new hotel swimming pool, covered living spaces on their rooftops, and the addition of many small changes and additions to the property.
From 2013-2019 the Hotel was managed solely by Steven Acedo. It was not until 2019 when the Covid 19 pandemic hit that the hotel saw a new transition. After closing the hotel for a period of 6 months due to the pandemic, Esteban Acedo returned to Costa Rica after being away from his business for seven years. With Esteban’s return, the Hotel saw major changes that have led it to become the beautiful boutique Hotel it is today. Esteban took over management in 2019 and at that time reinvested into the Hotel to make it even more appealing to future guests. Esteban’s influence and energy led to a remodel of the rooms and common areas, making them more appealing. Rooms were transformed with new curtains, light features, blackout shades, and most importantly, the addition of a magnitude of beautiful indoor plants that bring life and energy into each room.
Shortly after this highlight, Steven Acedo moved back to the United States and Esteban’s brother (Zack) moved to Costa Rica to assist Esteban with running the hotel.
The vision for the company is to convert Villas Jacquelina into a hotel that is fully sustainable. Esteban has plans to install solar panels, a rainwater collection system, and he is also working on a well for pumping water. The well and rainwater would be filtered and used for the hotel, making the hotel run completely by rainwater and well water.
The mission for Esteban has always been to generate enough income to live the ‘Pura Vida’ lifestyle. He strives for financial freedom and to make the most out of living in Costa Rica. The objectives that he has in mind are to generate more income and eventually turn Villas Jacquelina into a turn-key business that would be ready to sell to the right buyer. With technology developments and other resources available, he is striving for a business model which requires minimum effort and limited employees at the hotel.
Additionally, Esteban wants Villas Jacquelina to be a safe haven for his family and friends. With the addition of sustainable resources and objectives, Esteban strives to create a sustainable environment that can sustain his family in case of major natural disasters and sea-level rises that are likely to come with continued extreme climate change.
