Volunteering in Costa Rica is a great option for those looking to work with wildlife and conservation. The country is famous and admired for its efforts in preserving natural environments which serve as habitats for wildlife on land and water. Hosting some of the most hands-on volunteer opportunities, Manuel Antonio has over the years become one of Costa Rica’s most popular places to find volunteer opportunities in Costa Rica. Volunteering while on vacation has become a new niche in traveling over the past few years. Millions of people have started to dedicate their time and energy into being of service to benefit communities and the environment all over the world, while on vacation.
When volunteering, people work for a certain organization and in their free time, they travel and explore their surroundings. Volunteers who dedicate themselves to the Manuel Antonio area experience advantages like the opportunity to live locally, learn new skills, delve into the culture of the country, have more time to explore, give back to communities, develop themselves, and meet like-minded people. In this blog, we will share important information about the best volunteer programs in Manuel Antonio, how to apply, and what the costs are for each program.

La Tortuga Feliz was first established as an ecotourism project to watch sea turtles. After that a business plan was created and the project was transformed into a non-profit volunteer project. The conservation program has the aim of protecting sea turtles and generating income for the local population, by, for example, using them as guides during patrols. In this way, income is generated and the necessity for them to poach the turtles and their eggs is eliminated.
At La Tortuga Feliz, volunteers patrol the beach together with the local guides looking for turtles nesting. Once the turtles finish the egg laying process, the duty of the volunteers is to take the eggs and transport them to a central hatchery where they will be reburied, studied, and released when hatched.
To volunteer at La Tortuga, you need to look at the availability in the months you would like to work and book it via their website. Volunteering is possible from the months of February until November.
The costs for this program depend on the month you wish to volunteer. Costs include lodging, 3 daily meals and training. February, September, and October $35 per night. March $38 per night. April, May, June, July, and August $45 per night.
